Ear candling is a type of alternative medicine which is claimed to improve one's health. A hollow candle is lit and put into a person's ear canal. Medical experts say the treatment is both ineffective and hazardous, as it doesn't remove earwax or toxins.

According to professor Edzard Ernst there are no indications that ear candling has any kind of effect. Ear candles have also caused ear injuries. It is concluded that there are more hazards than benefits. The treatment should be avoided.
